“b.y.o.b.” @ Physical Fest Liverpool, May 2016, LEAP 2017

BYOB poster main image” b.y.o.b. “

(bring your own beat) is an experiment on the effect of music on dance and on our everyday lives. It also aims to promote “audience engagement” as a fundamental characteristic of performance. The audience bring along a playlist of 12 minutes (this could include music of any kind or spoken word) and their headphones, and watch the piece with their own soundtrack. The piece has no intended meaning or story. The audiences’ choice of music allows them to see what’s not there.

b.y.o.b. will be appearing at SoloDans in Ankara, June 28 – 30, 2019.

b.y.o.b. was last on 12 March 2017 as part of the Artist Takeover at LEAP 2017.

b.y.o.b. was first performed in the Sandon Room at the Bluecoat Thurs 26TH & Friday 27TH 5.30 pm as part of Physical Fest 2016.

This piece showing the effects of music on dance and within everyday life. An interesting concept of bringing your own music to the performance, this enabled new technique and new features to be created. The movement improvisation was fluid and continuous, beautifully executed. It was instigated after the performance that the work had no meaning or was to portray a story, this a refreshing take on choreography and movement material. It was a lovely and relaxed performance that did not have any pre-conceptions thus allowing for a natural piece to be performed. We thank Onur Orkut for his performance within the LEAP Dance Festival 207.

The Stage’s Tim Mano mentioned “b.y.o.b.” as a “must see”. Click here for the full review of Physical Fest.
